Glee!

I had never heard of a ‘Glee Club’ before I read about the new television program of the same name.

I found it quite intriguing. As such, I felt some investigating was in order.

Wikipedia defines a ‘Glee Club’ as a musical group, historically of male voices but also of female or mixed voices, which traditionally specialises in the singing of short songs - glees - by trios or quartets.

Now that I had an understanding about what this club does, it begged the question, what did I think about the program itself?

Well, I must admit, I quite like it.

The way in which the songs are entwined into the lives of the students who are part of the Glee Club, called ‘New Directions’ at William McKinley High School makes watching the program live up to it’s name, as it is a joyful experience. The songs are a mix of old and current music, so it appeals to a broad age group, and the way they have contemporised some of the songs is quite inspiring.

Sure, all of the stereotypical high school characters are included in the cast – however I defy anyone who is watching this program to not feel like singing to themselves by the time the third song is in full swing. Seriously! And let’s face it, nothing makes you feel more youthful, passionate or invincible than singing along to a song that is already gaining momentum, at the top of your lungs, in the privacy of your own home.

In fact, I have fun when I watch Glee! How often can you say that about a television program?

Finding Neverland

It’s cold and wet outside. As such, I just feel like rugging up on the sofa, eating some hot chicken soup and yes, having my mother look after me! In short, I don’t feel like growing up today.

Which leads me to think about the one boy who never grew up, Peter Pan.

I can sense a trip to a bookshop is on the cards – as I feel a quick sojourn in a mythical land with Peter and his friends will be just the tonic I need to get me out of my winter slump! In the in the meantime, a quick viewing of ‘Finding Neverland’ wouldn’t hurt either.
