Hello Summer!

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010 by mfn

I was getting my daily fill of my favourite blogs the other day, when I came across the most gorgeous photograph of the most elegant looking Parisian lady, looking summery, yet sophisticated in shorts and a shirt.

Habitually Chic had reblogged this from The Sartorialist – however the copy that The Sartorialist wrote about this was so spot on – that I wanted to share it with you:

What a great way to look this summer: so simple and yet so refined.

I love that her shorts aren’t too short and that her top isn’t too tight. Nothing screams in this look and yet the presentation is very strong.

This is a great example of elegance successfully achieved through understatement and flawless execution.

I think that describes the essence of how I would always like to dress!!

Of course, I in turn emailed this link to one of my best friends (who could give the best fashion stylists a run for their money) so that she could help me organise this as one of ‘my looks’ for summer. I had to laugh when she advised me that she had already seen this shot and had put it away in her ‘summer inspiration’ folder!!! I think it’s going to be a good summer ……………!

Magnificent Obsession

Monday, July 12th, 2010 by mfn

When I came across the ‘Magnificent Obsession’ photo story in the latest edition of America Vogue, I became giddy with excitement and anticipation.

Shot by Peter Lindbergh and styled by none other than Grace Coddington, I was not let down. ‘Magnificent Obsession’ is elegance at it’s best.

As described in Vogue:

The fall collections’ most vivid moments had all the autumnal brilliance of a 1950s domestic drama. Starring Ewan McGregor and Natalia Vodianova.

Here is a look at just some of the photos from this shoot. I would never show the entire shoot - that would be mean. I love the feeling of looking at a magical photo essay for the first time - and being old fashioned, there is nothing quite like holding the magazine in your hand and flipping through the pages at your own leisure. As such, I wouldn’t want to take that pleasure away from anyone else.

But, please enjoy these photos - they are just too divine for words!
