With the Emmys on today, it got me thinking about memorable acceptance speeches.
To follow are a couple that made me laugh ……
Woody Allen
After a standing ovation at the 2002 Oscars Woody said, “Thank you very much. That makes up for the strip search.”

George Clooney
When George won the Oscar for best supporting actor in “Syriana”, he did so graciously, while recognising what this win would do for his legacy.
“All right, so I’m not winning (best) director,” said Clooney, who later lost in the directing and screenplay categories for “Good Night, and Good Luck.”
“It’s a funny thing about winning an Academy Award, this will always be sort of synonymous with your name from here on. Oscar-winner George Clooney, sexiest man alive 1997, ‘Batman,’ died today in a freak accident.”

Acceptance speeches that referred to George Clooney
Howard Berger, co-winner for makeup in 2006 for “The Chronicles of Narnia,” said, “Well, I’m just glad that Clooney doesn’t do makeup.”
Accepting the award for documentary short, Corinne Marrinan thanked her family, HBO and the Academy — for sitting her next to Clooney at the 2006 nominees luncheon.
Tina Fey
And in 2006 (I believe?) while accepting an award for “30 Rock”, Tina thanked their “dozens and dozens of viewers ….”
