Pretty as a Picture

Without realising it, I have been enjoying Caitlin McGauley’s work for quite some time.

Caitlin is a painter. On her website, caitlinmcgauley.com she advises that she has been painting and drawing on every available surface since childhood! Luckily for all of us, she followed her passion and went to art school and honed her talents.

She now lives in New York City where she works as a painter and also blogs about all of the exciting and compelling things she sees – and happily for all of us she does this through her exquisite paintings.

Let me show you why I am so entranced with her work:

And here are some examples of her blog entries:

I hope you all know how much I love Grace - and this painting is simply divine!! It captures her character perfectly!

I think one of these paintings would make the best present! A special birthday, christening or even just because!! I’m certain you would never regret it – nor would the lucky recipient.

The Other Grace

I have always loved the way that Grace Coddington styles. Whether it is for a whimsical shoot or a more practical one, there is always a concise story that is weaved throughout the pages with an underlying current of elegance.

I must admit, I find the fanciful shoots that Grace does simply take my breath away. The ‘Alice in Wonderland’ one is my favourite – although as it is my favourite book, that is not surprising! I still remember where I was when I bought my copy and where I read it - and yes, it is still on my coffee table at home. (It’s a very good issue!)

Grace’s ability to lead you into an alternate world that engulfs and entertains you is a magical talent that not many stylists hold and is what makes her so iconic.

Understandably, her book, ‘Grace: Thirty Years of Fashion at Vogue’ holds a special place in my heart. It’s my favourite photography book.

I get a sense that Grace has a great sense of humour by looking at this cover illustration!

I was living overseas at the time it was published. It was my birthday soon after the book was released and my parents bought it for me for my birthday present, making the book even more of a treasure due to their association with it.

If you get a chance to get a copy, I highly recommend it. It is such a lovely journey through Grace’s favourite styling stories.I promise that it will take your breath away too.
